The scenic outlook opposite the Motel Riverbend offers amazing views of the Murray River and ferry. "Cosi's Rhinocerous" marks the entry road to the free ferry crossing over the Murray River. Take a short walk down to the river and you will find a grassed picnic area and the original ferry landing, constructed in 1924.
Railway Terrace hosts a small variety of shops and eateries including the award-winning Tailem Bend Bakery. Directly opposite the bakery is a large children’s playground which is home to a full-size steam train locomotive. For coffee and cake enthusiasts a visit to Little Local Co is a must. The Tailem Bend Hotel and the Riverside Hotel are open for lunch and dinner, and both offer a great range of meals.
The Uneek Animal Display (a tin version of the Coorong’s wildlife) is also found in the main street next to the Tailem Bend Visitors Information Centre.
For those keen on exploring the great outdoors, why not try the River Bend Heritage Trail – a 25 km loop walking trail between Tailem Bend and Wellington or the Lower Murray Canoe Trail – a 21 km trail along the mighty Murray. If you are up for a real adrenalin rush SA Skydiving at Langhorne Creek is less than 50 km away. Golfing, boating and fishing are also popular activities in Tailem Bend.
Old Tailem Town Pioneer Village, just 5 kms out of Tailem Bend is Australia’s largest Pioneer Village. With over 90 buildings and a huge stationery engine display it is well worth a visit. The Bend Motorsport Park is located 8 kms south of Tailem Bend. A visit to this multi-purpose facility is well worth your time. While you a there try “Karting at The Bend”, available daily between 10.00 am – 6.00 pm (to avoid disappointment it is recommended to book ahead).
Wine enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to Willow Point Wines and the Langhorne Creek Wine Region, each providing a unique tasting experience from their locally grown grapes.
Monarto Safari Park is the largest open-range zoo in the world and is home to more than 500 animals and 50 exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles. Highly recommended for a visit while you are in the area, the Monarto Safari Park is only 45 km from Motel Riverbend.
Coorong National Park, just over an hour away, is well known for its prolific birdlife and spectacular landscape and is a very popular spot for both birdwatching and photography.
